Ugandan Australian comic and poet Anisa Nandaula’s unique point of view and experiences fuel the fresh new perspective she’s bringing to the local comedy scene and beyond.
Born in Uganda in 2001, Anisa moved to Australia when she was eight and grew up in Rockhampton.
Cutting her teeth through spoken word, Anisa won the 2016 Queensland Poetry Slam and was runner up in the Australia Poetry Slam Championships, then took what she learned to break into comedy in 2020.
Mining everything from racism to relationships, religion to class has seen her amass more than 50 million views of her work across Instagram, Tik Tok and YouTube and more than 200,000 social media followers.
Anisa mixes the personal with the political to connect with audiences, veering from relatable dating and finance stories to observations about navigating Australian society while black and back again.
She has performed on Channel Ten, SBS, ABC and at the Sydney Opera House.
